Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has instructed all four emirates in the state to begin preparations for the upcoming Sallah Durbar Celebration, ensuring that both residents and visitors enjoy the festivities.
The governor also announced that the Kano State Emirate Council will be inaugurated in April to enhance its effectiveness.
This directive was shared in a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Wednesday. It was made during a Ramadan breakfast meeting with the Emirs at the Government House, Kano, on Tuesday.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the public’s eagerness for the Sallah tradition, which includes wearing new clothes, lining the streets to see the Emirs on horseback, and exchanging greetings.
He assured that his administration would ensure the celebration is not hindered by any adversaries, stating, “My administration will not relent in upholding this cherished tradition.” He also assured that security agencies would be fully engaged to guarantee the safety of the people during the event.
The governor further shared that the guidelines, ethics, and other important details for the Emirate Council will be revealed during its inauguration. He praised the Emirs for their maturity and the positive relationships they have fostered, noting that this is the first time in the state’s history that such respect exists among the Emirs, particularly regarding their hierarchy.
In response, Chairman of the Kano Emirate Council, Muhammadu Sanusi II, acknowledged the exceptional cordiality between himself and the second-class Emirs.
He urged the governor to utilize traditional institutions to effectively communicate policies and programs to the grassroots, ensuring smooth and efficient implementation.
