Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a firm directive for all political appointees within his administration to immediately declare their assets, stressing the importance of transparency and adherence to the Code of Conduct rules.
The governor made this announcement during an Iftar gathering with Heads of Government Agencies and Special Advisers at the Government House in Kano on Thursday, a meeting designed to discuss governance matters and ensure accountability.
Governor Yusuf revealed that a significant portion of his appointees—around 60 to 70 percent—had yet to fulfill their legal obligation to declare their assets, urging them to complete and submit the necessary forms without delay. “Compliance with the law is not optional, it is a duty,” Yusuf emphasized.
The governor also reminded his special advisers of their pivotal roles in shaping governance. He encouraged them to offer honest and constructive counsel, whether positive or critical, and to actively monitor government activities, ensuring that they remain aligned with the administration’s objectives.
In a display of generosity, Yusuf announced that 13 seats for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage had been allocated to the Heads of Government Agencies, further cementing the administration’s commitment to rewarding loyal public servants.
Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KCHIMA), spoke on behalf of the appointees, thanking the governor for his unwavering support and leadership.
Additionally, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Umar Ibrahim, reminded the appointees of their solemn oath to serve with justice and fairness.
He urged them to remain dedicated to Governor Yusuf’s transformative vision, which aims to enhance the welfare and standard of living for all Kano citizens.
This move underscores Governor Yusuf’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, accountable, and effective government, setting a strong precedent for ethical governance in the state.
