The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has appointed 200 youths from the All-Progressives Congress (APC) as his special assistants. In a gesture that underscores his commitment to gender sensitivity, the governor ensured that both male and female youths were included in the appointments.
At the APC Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, the state party Chairman, Abubakar Kana-Zuru, presented the appointments to the beneficiaries, expressing pride in the governor’s leadership. He recalled that during the election campaign, the party had promised to address the needs of the people across the state, and he proudly noted that Governor Idris had already fulfilled about 80% of those promises. Kana-Zuru assured that the remaining promises would soon be completed, and more achievements would follow.
Among the governor’s notable accomplishments, Kana-Zuru highlighted the procurement and distribution of free fertilizers and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) support to farmers, as well as the free distribution of foodstuffs to residents. He also mentioned the construction of triple- and double-lane roads with solar-powered streetlights in the state capital, alongside the completion of the multi-billion-naira Ultra-Modern State Secretariat.
“If you haven’t visited Kebbi in the last one or two years, a visit now will amaze you. You won’t believe the transformation,” Kana-Zuru said. He emphasized that the governor runs an open and inclusive government, focused on ensuring that all citizens benefit from the dividends of democracy. The chairman also recalled the governor’s frequent message to his appointees to spread happiness and share the fruits of democracy with the public.
He assured the new appointees that their salaries would begin by the end of December.
A’isha Gulabi, the state APC Women Leader, also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude for the governor’s actions. She emphasized that the appointments were not only for the appointees but would benefit many people across the state. “We, the people of Kebbi, are blessed with a governor who does good to both those who support him and those who oppose him,” she said.
Gulabi encouraged the youth to remain loyal and respectful to continue enjoying the benefits of democracy, and urged those who did not receive an appointment to remain patient, as their time would come.
A number of the appointed youths also expressed their gratitude, calling Governor Idris the “governor of the people, for the people, and a servant of the people.”
