The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 165 individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants and handed them over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and legal action.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven operation on January 31, 2025, in the Kuwait area of Birnin Kebbi, where security operatives discovered more than 200 individuals residing in a three-bedroom flat.
A team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) conducted a raid on the premises, apprehending 165 people. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were from several Francophone West African countries, including Burkina Faso (35), Benin Republic (11), Niger Republic (5), Mali (4), and Ivory Coast (110). Further investigation showed that none of the individuals possessed valid travel documents.
The arrested individuals were allegedly involved in the Qnet Ponzi scheme, a fraudulent investment platform that has been known to deceive unsuspecting people.
Following the preliminary inquiry, the suspects were transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for further investigation and appropriate legal measures.
The Kebbi State Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to upholding security and enforcing immigration laws, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities within their communities.
