The Kebbi State Police Command has reported that suspected Lakurawa terrorists attacked Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area, killing at least 16 people.
In a statement released on Monday, Nafiu Abubakar, the police spokesperson, explained that the deadly attack occurred on April 6, around 6 pm. The assailants, who arrived in large numbers, rustled cattle and engaged in a violent confrontation with residents, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
The police further revealed that Bello Sani, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi, has directed the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams to the affected areas. These teams, consisting of police officers, military personnel, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) agents, and local vigilantes, have been tasked with restoring security and ensuring the safety of the affected communities.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to eradicating banditry and other violent crimes in Kebbi State,” Abubakar quoted Commissioner Sani as saying. “We are using every resource at our disposal to ensure the perpetrators of this horrific attack are brought to justice.”
The police spokesperson also confirmed that normalcy has been restored to the villages, and authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
