In a swift and successful operation, the Kebbi State Police Command has neutralized four suspected kidnappers, rescued a 60-year-old victim, and recovered a ransom of N3 million in Suru Local Government Area on February 14, 2025.
The police’s prompt response came after reports emerged of a kidnapping in Gobiraje Village. At approximately 1:45 PM, armed men suspected of being kidnappers stormed the village, abducting Umaru Bawa. The police swiftly mobilized a combined team of officers and local vigilantes, who launched an immediate manhunt.
Their efforts led them to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis, where the criminals had taken refuge. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in four kidnappers being neutralized. One suspect was arrested with fatal injuries, while others managed to flee into the forest, nursing gunshot wounds.
In addition to the successful rescue of the victim, unharmed and in good health, the police recovered a sum of N3 million—the exact amount of ransom that had been paid to the kidnappers.
The swift and coordinated operation is being hailed as a major victory in the ongoing fight against crime in the state.
Kebbi State’s Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, praised the officers for their unwavering dedication, professional execution of the operation, and tactical prowess. He reassured the public of the command’s unrelenting commitment to eradicating criminal activities from the state and ensuring the safety of residents.
“Let this operation serve as a testament to our resolve,” said Sani. “We remain steadfast in our mission to rid Kebbi of criminal elements. I also urge the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.”
The police continue to call on the people of Kebbi to maintain vigilance and assist authorities in their efforts to ensure a safer, crime-free environment.
