Kebbi State Government Approves N75,000 Minimum Wage for Civil Servants

The Kebbi State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants, marking a significant step forward for state workers. This announcement came during the presentation of the Minimum Wage Committee’s report, which was established by the governor.

The decision follows recent agreements between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government regarding a minimum wage of N72,000, providing Kebbi workers with a modest increase.

During the announcement, Secretary to the State Government Yakubu Bala revealed that the new wage was the result of extensive discussions between state executives and the labour union, which included the presence of NLC national leaders led by Joe Ajaero.

Governor Nasir Idris, who signed the new wage into law, emphasized his commitment to the welfare of Kebbi State workers, drawing from his background as a former labour leader. He stated that the new minimum wage would take effect with the October salary, promising that payments would be made within 72 hours.

NLC President Joe Ajaero commended Governor Idris for the decision but criticized other governors who have only made minimal wage increases despite higher oil revenues. He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to advocating for better wages across more states.

In a show of solidarity, NLC leaders chanted songs in appreciation of the governor’s decision, celebrating this positive change for Kebbi State workers.
