Kebbi State Reschedules 61st Argungu International Fishing Festival to 2026

The Kebbi State Government has announced the rescheduling of the highly anticipated 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival to 2026, pushing back the event initially slated for February 2025.

At a press briefing, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Umar Abubakar Tafida Argungu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Festival’s Main Committee, shared that the decision was made after thorough consultations with the Argungu Emirate Council.

“Following extensive discussions, the Emirate Council has decided to reschedule the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival. The festival, originally set for February 2025, will now take place in 2026,” Tafida Argungu said.

The Deputy Governor explained that the delay was necessary to allow for comprehensive renovation works at the festival venues to ensure they meet modern standards and are structurally sound. In addition, ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the dualisation of roads and other key developments in Argungu Township, played a significant role in the decision to move the event.

Despite the postponement, Tafida Argungu reassured the public and festival stakeholders that the state government remains committed to delivering an exceptional event in 2026. “We are committed to showcasing Kebbi State’s rich cultural heritage and making the festival a success,” he affirmed.

He further expressed gratitude to the public, stakeholders, and participants for their understanding and cooperation, urging them to continue working together for a brighter future for the state.
