Kenyan Court Orders 30-Day Detention for Suspected Serial Killer

A Kenyan court has ordered Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a man accused of murdering and dismembering 42 women, to be detained for 30 days as police continue their investigation. The 33-year-old, described by police as a “vampire, a psychopath,” was arrested early Monday following the gruesome discovery of mutilated bodies in a Nairobi garbage dump.

Khalusha appeared in a court in the Kenyan capital, where the magistrate approved the police request for an extended detention period to facilitate the ongoing probe. Initially, there was confusion as the suspect was taken to a court on the outskirts of Nairobi, which stated it lacked jurisdiction. He was subsequently transferred to the magistrate’s court.

Since Friday, authorities have recovered ten butchered female bodies, wrapped in plastic bags, from an abandoned quarry in the Nairobi slum of Mukuru. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported the gruesome findings. According to Mohamed Amin, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Khalusha confessed to murdering 42 women over a two-year period beginning in 2022, with his wife being his first victim.

Khalusha was detained near a bar where he had been watching the Euro 2024 football match. Police were able to locate him by analyzing the phone of one of his alleged victims. Amin stated that when officers apprehended Khalusha, he was in the process of luring another potential victim.

“We are dealing with a vampire, a psychopath,” Amin told reporters

The bodies were found just 100 meters from a police station. In response to the discovery, acting national police chief Douglas Kanja announced that the officers stationed there had been transferred to ensure an unbiased investigation.
