King Charles Attends Church in First Public Outing Since Cancer Diagnosis Announced

In his first public appearance since revealing last week that he had been diagnosed with cancer and would be delaying several engagements to receive treatment, King Charles of Britain attended church on Sunday.

The king waved as he and his wife, Camilla, arrived at St. Mary Magdalene church in Sandringham, eastern England. He was wearing a brown overcoat and was holding an umbrella.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace said that 75-year-old Charles had been diagnosed with an unidentified kind of cancer. After his mother, Queen Elizabeth, passed away, the monarch has occupied the throne for less than eighteen months.

Following his diagnosis, Charles, who is now residing at his remote Sandringham estate, sent out a statement on Saturday thanking everyone who have sent him good wishes.

While undergoing treatment, Charles has postponed public engagements but is planning to continue with much of his private work as monarch including having his weekly audience with the prime minister and dealing with state papers.

The cancer was discovered when Charles stayed three nights in hospital last month, undergoing a corrective procedure for a benign enlarged prostate. Beyond confirming it was not prostate cancer, the palace has not given any further details.
