The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has issued a warning against illegal tax collection and urged residents to fulfill their tax obligations, emphasizing that prompt payment is vital for the state’s development.
The Chairman of KGIRS, Sule Enehe, made this appeal on Thursday in Lokoja while addressing journalists about the importance of tax compliance in supporting government projects.
He explained that regular and timely tax payments would enable Governor Usman Ododo’s administration to provide critical infrastructure such as education, healthcare, roads, and water supply.
“When you declare your income and pay your taxes on time, the government will have the financial capacity to execute meaningful projects that benefit the people,” he said.
Enehe also highlighted key projects funded through taxpayers’ contributions, including the Zone 8 Roundabout-Barrack-Zango-GYB Junction Road and the Zone 8 Roundabout-CBN-High Court Road. Additionally, he mentioned the payment of WAEC, JAMB, and BECE examination fees for students in public schools as a testament to the government’s commitment to using tax revenue for public welfare.
“If we remain consistent with tax payment, the government will continue to deliver more beneficial projects for the people,” he added.
The KGIRS Chairman also issued a strong warning against illegal revenue collection, stating that anyone caught engaging in such activities would be prosecuted.
