Kwara Police Deny Reports of Bandits Relocating from Zamfara

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that bandits displaced from Zamfara State have relocated to Kwara.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, refuted the claims, stressing that there was no intelligence or operational report supporting the allegation.

The false report, which surfaced on social media on Sunday, suggested that fleeing bandits had moved to Banni in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara. However, the police clarified that no such movement had occurred and that the claim was unfounded.

“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a report alleging that bandits fleeing military offensives in Zamfara State have relocated to Banni town in Kwara State. The command categorically debunks this claim as false and misleading, a fabrication intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents,” the statement read.

The police further reassured residents that, in collaboration with other security agencies, they had increased surveillance across the state to address any potential security threats.

“The Kwara State Commissioner of Police reaffirms that the state remains safe, and the police are fully prepared to handle any security concerns,” the statement added.

The police also urged the public to disregard unverified reports and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary alarm.
