Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), declared that President Bola Tinubu will face a difficult re-election campaign.
In a televised interview, Arabambi stated, “Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027. We are coming back with Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious.”
Peter Obi, who was LP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, finished third, trailing Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite the defeat, the Labour Party is aiming to make a powerful comeback in 2027, with Arabambi asserting that their resolve is stronger than ever.
In the same interview, Arabambi also responded to the recent resignation of actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo from the LP. He criticized Okonkwo’s decision, calling it “good riddance to bad rubbish.” Arabambi further accused Okonkwo of being disloyal, suggesting that the actor was working in favor of President Tinubu and the APC.
“We wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, but his resignation is a relief for the party as we prepare to challenge the current administration in 2027. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” Arabambi stated.
Arabambi dismissed claims of a leadership crisis within the LP, insisting that the party is not facing any internal struggles and is not on the brink of extinction. “There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. The Labour Party is not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors,” he added.
With the 2027 elections looming, the Labour Party remains determined to mount a serious challenge against the ruling APC, confident in their potential to unseat the current government.
