Lagos-Badagry Expressway Set for Completion by April – Umahi

The rehabilitation and expansion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway into a six-lane road is set to be completed by April 2025, according to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

During an inspection tour on Thursday, Umahi confirmed that the 46-kilometer stretch, part of the ECOWAS road to Seme Border and Abidjan, would be ready for inauguration by President Bola Tinubu to mark his second year in office.

Umahi revealed that the contractor handling the project has already been paid N50 billion out of the N71 billion total contract sum, demonstrating strong progress. He emphasized that the remaining work, involving about four to five kilometers, is expected to be completed before April 20.

Additionally, Umahi stated that the second section of the project, which will terminate at Seme Border, will be constructed with concrete pavement. He also hinted at plans to encourage border states to complete their sections of the ECOWAS highway project, which will ultimately connect to Abidjan.

The minister also commended President Tinubu for prioritizing the completion of approximately 270 inherited projects nationwide, which are slated for inauguration in May. The Lagos-Badagry Expressway rehabilitation was initially awarded in October 2018.
