The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, recently demolished 138 illegal shanties situated along the canal bank in Ajao Estate.
The demolition is part of ongoing efforts to combat environmental violations and the illegal occupation of public spaces.
The occupants of these demolished shanties were reportedly paying between N60,000 and N100,000 in annual rent.
In a video shared on X.com by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, he explained that the operation was aimed at addressing the growing issue of environmental infractions in the area.
Wahab emphasized that this is part of a broader initiative to tackle illegal encampments in public spaces.
In a related action on Wednesday, a midnight operation led to the arrest of 94 individuals accused of squatting along rail tracks in the state. Wahab noted that the arrests followed public complaints about illegal squatters, miscreants, and suspected criminal activities in the rail track corridors.
During the operation, a locally fabricated shotgun, several wraps of suspected Indian hemp, charms, and a jackknife were recovered from the suspects.
