The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning to contractors handling housing projects, threatening to terminate contracts for those who fail to meet agreed-upon deadlines.
This warning came from the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, following an inspection of several state-funded housing developments, including the Sangotedo Housing Estate and Eti Osa Phase 2.
Akinderu-Fatai expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress on these projects, despite the government’s consistent support and commitment to their success.
His remarks, which were shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Lagos State Government on Thursday, highlighted growing concerns over delays in crucial housing projects that are vital to addressing the state’s housing needs.
The Commissioner emphasized that contractors who do not meet their deadlines will face contract revocation, with the projects being reassigned to firms capable of delivering on time.
He also conveyed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s displeasure with the failure of contractors to adhere to the agreed timelines.
Akinderu-Fatai further stressed the pressure on the government to fulfill its promises, particularly in the housing sector, and urged contractors to meet their deadlines while maintaining quality.
The government aims to complete all five ongoing housing estates before the end of the current administration’s tenure in 2027.
