The Lagos State Police Command has strongly denied recent reports claiming that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested across the state, describing the story as false, malicious, and intended to instill public fear.
In an official statement on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, revealed no evidence of such arrests. “There is nowhere throughout Lagos State that the group mentioned in the report—Boko Haram—were seen, sighted, or arrested,” Hundeyin stated.
He explained that leaders and workers at the trailer park communities named in the viral report confirmed that no such individuals were present or detained. Surveillance officers, detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID), and other police units were dispatched for verification, but no arrest matching the claims was found.
“The report in its entirety is false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public,” he added, urging Lagos residents to disregard the report and continue their daily activities without fear.
Hundeyin also cautioned media outlets against promoting fake news and urged journalists to verify facts before publication. “The writer of the story is advised to verify facts and the truth of any information before going to press,” he said.
The police reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency line: 08063299264.
