Lagos State Governor Commits to Worker Welfare Amidst Economic Challenges

 

In a show of solidarity with Nigerian workers, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and prosperity of the workforce in Lagos State.

Speaking at the May Day celebration held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos Island, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the economic challenges facing workers amidst government policies aimed at rescuing the economy and fostering sustainable growth.

Highlighting the resilience, adaptability, and courage displayed by workers, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the pivotal role they play in ensuring essential services remain uninterrupted and the state stands strong.

He underscored his administration’s philosophy of “People First,” demonstrating through various measures, policies, and initiatives a firm belief in prioritizing the welfare of the people.

Sanwo-Olu outlined the government’s response actions aimed at mitigating the impact of economic challenges and providing support to both workers and citizens.

From subsidized food items and social intervention programs to healthcare initiatives and educational opportunities, the governor reiterated the commitment to creating a Lagos where everyone has a fair chance to thrive.

Acknowledging the importance of standing together in solidarity, Sanwo-Olu praised the achievements made in improving working conditions and ensuring fair wages and benefits for workers.

He emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting labor unions and organizations advocating for workers’ rights and welfare.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, also commended the government’s efforts in addressing various challenges facing the workforce.

He highlighted intervention programs implemented to cushion the effect of current hardships, including wage awards, incentives, and housing schemes.

Agoro further disclosed plans for vehicle allocations to substantive directors in the State Public Service, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing working conditions and employee welfare.

In conclusion, both Sanwo-Olu and Agoro expressed gratitude to Lagos State Public Servants for their continued support of government plans, policies, and programs aimed at ensuring Lagos remains Nigeria’s Center of Excellence.
