The Lagos State Taskforce is amplifying its enforcement actions to eradicate the illegal operation of commercial motorcycles, commonly referred to as “Okada,” on major highways and restricted routes in the state. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure safer roads and reduce incidents related to unlawful Okada operations.
On Tuesday, July 16, a significant operation targeted various critical areas, including Iyana-Iba Road, Badagry Expressway, Igboelerin, and Alakija. Despite the existing ban, these locations have been hotspots where Okada riders continue to flout the restrictions.
The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, emphasized the seriousness of the enforcement activities, indicating that more operations are planned to enhance compliance and thoroughly eliminate Okada operations in these regions. As a result of the recent sweep, over 105 illegal commercial motorcycles were confiscated in a single operation. Following local regulations, all impounded motorcycles are subject to forfeiture by the Lagos state government.
This crackdown aligns with the state’s broader commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring road safety, and promoting the well-being of its residents by curbing the influx of illegal commercial Okada operators.
