Lagos to shut Eko Bridge from Sept 16 for 8 weeks for repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced that Eko Bridge will be undergoing emergency repairs starting Monday, September 16, a project expected to last for eight weeks.

This critical work, conducted by the Federal Ministry of Works, will necessitate the intermittent full or partial closure of the bridge, with a planned reopening in the second week of November.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, outlined the scope of the repairs and their impact on traffic flow in a statement released on Friday. To manage the expected disruptions, he advised motorists to consider several alternative routes.

For those traveling to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, it is recommended to use the service lane at Alaka to connect with Costain and then proceed to Eko Bridge. Alternatively, drivers can take Costain directly to Eko Bridge and continue to Apongbon.

Motorists coming from Apongbon heading towards Funsho Williams Avenue are advised to use Eko Bridge to connect to Costain. Those traveling to Surulere should consider using Costain to reach Breweries, and then navigate through Abebe Village to connect with Eric Moore or Bode Thomas.

Additionally, drivers can utilize Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue, or take Apapa Road from Costain to Oyingbo, then continue to Adekunle to link up with Third Mainland Bridge.

To alleviate traffic congestion and minimize delays, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will have officers stationed at the repair sites and along the alternative routes.

Their presence is intended to ensure smoother traffic flow and provide assistance to motorists during the repair period.
