LASEPA Seals 619 Facilities for Environmental Violations in 2024

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed 619 facilities, including mosques, churches, hotels, and others, for various environmental violations in 2024.

This disclosure was made by the General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi, during a media interactive session held in Ikeja, Lagos.

Ajayi revealed that noise pollution was the primary reason for the closure of 528 of the facilities, as the agency ramped up its enforcement of environmental laws. These actions were carried out under the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, targeting households, hotels, and worship centers.

In reflecting on the agency’s achievements in 2024, Ajayi emphasized the agency’s plans to increase advocacy for environmental consciousness in 2025. He mentioned a stronger focus on enforcing stricter regulations, particularly against noise pollution, the establishment of designated smoking and non-smoking zones, and improved waste management practices through authorized disposal bodies.

LASEPA also plans to enhance the handling of public complaints through an expanded complaints center and digital channels, while increasing public awareness campaigns and academic publications to promote better environmental practices.
