The body of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has arrived in Abuja, where he will be buried on Friday.
A Nigerian Air Force plane, NAF 918, carrying the remains of the late COAS landed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 12:15 PM, after departing from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at approximately 11 AM.
Upon arrival, a guard of honor was held in tribute to the late COAS, with his body escorted down a red carpet in the presence of Nigeria’s military leadership.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja will be interred on Friday at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja. His death was announced last week by President Bola Tinubu, who noted that Lagbaja passed away in Lagos after a period of illness.
Born on February 28, 1968, Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months, having been appointed to the role by President Tinubu in June 2023.
