Aloba Joseph, the father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has filed an application at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja seeking a judicial review of the legal advice issued by the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The application, filed on March 12, is brought under Order 44 Rule 3 of the Lagos High Court Rules, Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, and the court’s inherent jurisdiction.
Represented by Senior Advocate Wahab Shittu, Mohbad’s father is requesting the court to quash the DPP’s legal advice regarding his son’s murder. Aloba, suing on behalf of himself and the Aloba family, has named the Attorney General of Lagos and the DPP as respondents.
He argues that the DPP’s advice should be overturned due to a lack of fair hearing, the premature conclusion of the Coroner’s inquest, and the release of key suspects implicated in the proceedings.
In supporting documents, Aloba states that Mohbad’s death on September 11, 2025, was unnatural and suspicious, leading him to petition for an inquest.
No judge has been assigned to hear the case, and a hearing date has not yet been set.
