The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested over 25 people for illegal dumping, including six vehicle owners caught using their vehicles to dispose of large amounts of waste.
This was revealed by the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who shared the update along with videos on X.com on Saturday. Wahab explained that LAWMA’s Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, had mobilized officials after a public complaint was posted on social media regarding illegal dumping at Abati Primary School on Shasha Road in the Alimosho area.
Wahab wrote, “In response to a complaint made by #WATERISLIF about illegal dumping at Abati Primary School, Shasha Road, #muyiwag, the MD of #Lawma_gov mobilised the Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team to address and resolve the issue.
“As a result, over 25 individuals were apprehended, including six vehicle owners involved in disposing of large quantities of waste using their cars.”
Wahab emphasized that all those arrested will face prosecution to the full extent of the law.
