The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has released a timetable for the screening of councillors and chairmanship candidates ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 19, 2024.
According to a statement signed by Chairman of the Commission Hajara Mohammed, the screening will take place from September 9 to September 16, 2024. The sessions will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the respective local government headquarters.
The timetable follows Section 19 of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2024 and the guidelines for the 2024 Local Government Council Election. This process is essential for vetting candidates and ensuring they meet the necessary qualifications for the upcoming elections.
In a related development, President Bola Tinubu recently praised the Supreme Court’s ruling in July that reinforced the constitutional rights of local governments.
He emphasized the importance of local council leaders delivering effective, people-oriented services to ensure that the benefits of governance are felt at the grassroots level.
