LG polls: Imo SDP Rejects Results, Threatens Legal Action

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State has rejected the results of the local government elections held on Saturday, September 21, and has expressed its intent to challenge the outcomes in court.

This decision was conveyed in a petition submitted to the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) by the party’s state chairman, Ifeanyi Eluwa, and shared with journalists in Owerri.

It is noteworthy that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won all 27 chairmanship positions and 305 wards in the recent elections.

The SDP condemned the electoral process, accusing ISIEC of violating the established guidelines to favor the APC-led administration.

Eluwa asserted that no actual elections occurred in any polling unit in Imo State, lamenting ISIEC’s claims of an election taking place.

He emphasized that the nation is suffering from poor leadership under the APC, promising that the SDP will legally contest what they allege were rigged results.

Eluwa outlined specific grievances, stating, “ISIEC failed to officially request or release Form ISIEC DF001 and ISIEC DF002 to the qualified candidates.”
