“Live Burial Of 70-Year-Old Man Is A Human Rights Violation!”- NSCC DG
The gruesome murder of a 70-year-old man in Mbatue Council Ward of Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State by some angry youths has continued to generate extensive condemnation.
The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) is the latest to express outrage, at the recent premature burial of Ihwakar Kumekor Dam for allegedly invoking thunder and lightning that killed his son, daughter-in-law and a grand-child.
According to a Statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications, Omini Oden, the Director General of NSCC, Dr Emem Omokaro describes it as an abominable act and height of Human Rights Violation that must be confronted and the culprits made to face the full weight of the law.
“NSCC commends the Nigeria Police Force for swinging into action with suspects already apprehended and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other Related Matters (NAPTIP) for steps already taken to bring culprits to book,” the Statement added.
Dr Emem Omokaro assures Older Persons and Nigerians that the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) will stop at nothing but defend the rights of Older Persons as well as Improve their quality of life and well wellbeing within its mandate.
“The National Senior Citizens Centre Anti Elder Abuse Community Response Mechanism is working in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission, the Legal Aids Council of Nigeria and NAPTIP to stem abuse and violence against Older Persons and provide access to justice,” Omokaro restates.
