Lookman snubbed as Serie A names September Player of the Month nominees

The September Player of the Month award nominations have been officially announced by Serie A, and despite his consistent form, Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman is not one of the six.

There were three exciting rounds of action in the Italian top flight in September, including high-profile fixtures like Juventus’ meeting against Napoli and the Milan derby, which intensified the fight for the honour.

Among the six nominees are some of Serie A’s top performers, including Juventus’ Bremer, Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic all of whom made the cut.

Bologna’s Santiago Castro and Como’s Patrick Cutrone also earned spots among the nominees after scoring three goals each during September.

According to Serie A, “The six players have been selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system.”

Unfortunately, for Lookman, this system did not consider him worthy of a place among the Serie A’s best players for the month of September, despite his impressive performances.

Lookman scored two goals and provided an assist in three matches for Atalanta during the period in question but still did not do enough to be considered a potential Player of the Month winner.

The Super Eagles star has already started off October the right way, albeit in the Champions League, where he scored and assisted for Atalanta in their 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
