MAN hails stakeholders’ commitment to clean manufacturing

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has praised stakeholders for their dedication to transforming the sector through the adoption of resource efficiency and cleaner production methods.

MAN’s Director-General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir expressed this commendation in his opening remarks at the five-day GEF-UNIDO Industrial Energy Efficiency, Resource Efficiency, and Cleaner Production specialized workshop, which was held for the Bank of Industry (BOI) and strategic stakeholders in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday.

Ajayi-Kadir specifically commended the BOI, which is responsible for managing the financing component of the initiative, for its critical role in the project’s success. The GEF-UNIDO project is a joint initiative between the Global Environmental Facility and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, designed to help countries achieve global environmental benefits by reducing emissions, enhancing climate resilience, and eliminating chemical waste.

He emphasized the importance of the project, noting that the financial support would enable industries across Nigeria to adopt technologies and systems that reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs, and promote sustainable development. Ajayi-Kadir added that the workshop would offer valuable insights into the structure, framework, and key elements of the GEF-UNIDO IEE & RECP Nigeria project. It would also provide a deeper understanding of industrial energy efficiency and resource-efficient cleaner production methods, equipping participants with the necessary knowledge to implement the project successfully.

The National Project Coordinator, Mr. Oladipp Jacob, who represented Oluyemi Banjo, the National Project Coordinator for Environment and Energy at UNIDO Nigeria, also provided an overview of the initiative.

He listed key stakeholders involved in the project, including the BOI, the Federal Ministry of Power, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, and the National Universities Commission, among others.
