Manchester United is considering a move to recruit Joshua Zirkzee, a forward for Bologna and the Netherlands.
The 23-year-old, who was born in Nigeria to Nigerian parents, had a successful first season with the Italian team and helped them earn a spot in the Champions League for the first time ever.
With Anthony Martial’s departure, the English team is trying to find a replacement forward.
According to reports, United faces stiff competition from Italian side AC Milan, as they are willing to pay his release clause of €40 million (£33.7m) and have agreed personal terms with the striker.
Zirkzee was forced to cut short his holiday in Florida this month after receiving a last-minute call-up by the Netherlands for their Euro 2024 campaign.
He was on the bench for Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Poland in their Group D opener on Sunday.
When asked about his future in an interview with Corriere Di Bologna last month, Zirkzee said: ‘At the moment my head is only in Bologna.
“I would choose the best for the club. I will only do what makes sense in my heart.”
Zirkzee scored 11 goals in in 34 Serie A games last season.
