Manchester United are in advanced discussions with Napoli over the potential signing of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, with the Italian club reportedly willing to offer a reduced fee on his release clause to avoid strengthening Serie A rivals.
According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has travelled to London to meet with United officials. The aim is to finalize a deal for the 26-year-old Super Eagles striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray.
Osimhen’s release clause has dropped to €75 million (£64 million) this summer, but Napoli are reportedly open to negotiating a lower price with Premier League clubs—particularly to deter a move to Juventus, who are also in talks with the player’s camp.
While Juventus remain interested, tensions between Napoli and Juve’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli may complicate any potential deal.
Manchester United have made Osimhen their top transfer target this summer as they look to strengthen their attacking options, having scored just 37 goals in 31 league games—one of the lowest tallies in the division. Despite United’s on-field struggles and uncertain European prospects, Osimhen is said to be open to a move to Old Trafford.
Other clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, PSG, and Barcelona, are also monitoring the situation closely. Chelsea held talks with Manna during his London visit but appear to be prioritising a move for Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap instead.
United’s existing good relationship with Napoli—following the Scott McTominay deal—could help ease negotiations. Osimhen has been in outstanding form for Galatasaray, scoring 28 goals in 32 appearances and is focused on helping the club secure both the Super Lig title and Turkish Cup.
