An unspecified number of people have been trapped under a two-storey building which collapsed in Abuja on Saturday.
A section of the building which serves as a residential apartment and located beside the popular Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road in Phase Two, Site Two of Kubwa, a satellite town, reportedly collapsed around 7 a.m.
According to reports, two persons have been rescued from the collapsed building while many more are still under the rubble.
The collapsed building, which contained 45 self-contained rooms, was previously used as a hotel before it was converted for residential purposes.
This comes less than 24 hours after a school building collapsed on pupils in Plateau State, killing 22 and injuring one hundred and thirty-two persons.
It is also eleven days after another building collapsed at Unity House, Area 11, Garki, in Abuja.
The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) was notified of the incident by passers-by and also received a distress call on the 112-emergency toll free number at about 6.45 am.
Two of the rescued victims have been taken to the Kubwa General hospital.
Search efforts are ongoing for any other person that may be trapped in the collapsed building.
Meanwhile, the Ag. Director General of FEMD, Florence Wenegieme, who is at the incident scene said search and rescue efforts are ongoing until the last person is removed, if at all there is still someone trapped in the rubble.
Wenegieme appealed to developers to follow strictly the building code and avoid the use of substandard materials.
