Nigerian singer Mayorkun, born Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, has shed light on his relationship with former record label boss Davido following his exit from Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).
In an interview on the “Tea With Tay” podcast hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh (Taymesan), Mayorkun clarified that he and Davido share “one of the best relationships” contrary to public perception.
The “Mayor Of Lagos” artist explained that the assumption of strained ties comes from his choice not to flaunt his relationship with Davido on social media.
Mayorkun emphasized that their relationship is not for public consumption but is built on a mutual understanding.
He stated, “Contrary to what other people think, I have one of the best relationships with Davido. I feel like he knows me and he understands the kind of person I am. If I dey vex for am now, he knows… Like do you understand? I’m not that difficult of a human being. It’s just that I’m not posting Davido every day, saying he’s my best friend, that’s why some people think we are not cool. The relationship is not for you [fans]. You always forget that.”
Mayorkun rose to prominence in 2016 with a cover of Davido’s “The Money” and was signed to DMW shortly after.
His debut single “Eleko” catapulted him to stardom, and in 2021, he parted ways with DMW.
