Mohamed Salah: Egypt Captain Returns to Liverpool Training After Injury at AFCON 2023
Mohamed Salah has fully recovered from the muscular injury that ended his 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Ivory Coast, and he is back in training with Liverpool.
At AFCON 2023, Salah made two appearances and played the entire ninety minutes of the 2-2 tie with Mozambique. However, he left the game a few minutes before halftime against Ghana.
The winger watched the Pharaohs play their last group game against Cape Verde, where they finished with the same result, 2-2.
With the expectation that he would return to the team’s camp if they advanced far in the competition, he left for “intense rehabilitation” in England. DR Congo, however, eliminated Egypt from the Round of 16 due to penalties.
The 31-year-old drew the ire of Egyptian fans and legends after leaving the national team camp, a move which had some questioning his commitment and leadership.
Three days after AFCON was concluded with hosts, Ivory Coast, beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final, the two-time African footballer of the year is back in action.
As seen in a post on his social media, Salah shared two images of himself in full team training at the AXA Training Centre in Melwood as the Reds prepare for the trip to Brentford on Saturday.
Per Goal, Jurgen Klopp claimed the game against Burnley was too early for the Egyptian’s return, but he will train with the team this week ahead of a possible return this weekend.
