Monarch’s Killing: Police impose curfew on Sokoto community

The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police has imposed curfew in Sabon Birnin town of Sokoto state following the protest that trailed the killing of the district head of Gatawa, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, announced that movement in the area is restricted between 6am and 6pm until further notice.

According to ASP Rufa’i, the curfew is aimed at restoring law and order in the troubled community.

Hundreds of youths took to the streets, blocking major roads and setting bonfires in protest, immediately after the funeral prayer for the repose of the soul of the late monarch on Thursday.

According to reports, the protesters torched the local government secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and a courtroom.

They also reportedly broke into a local government store, where they destroyed supplies of fertilizer.
