Mother of American rapper, Notorious B.I.G, Voletta Wallace, dies at 78

Voletta Wallace, mother of American rapper, The Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie Smalls, has passed away at the age of 78. According to Monroe County officials, Volleta died in the early hours of Friday, February 21 at her home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Following her son’s death in 1997 at the age of 24 in a shooting, Wallace was dedicated to keeping his memory alive through advocacy and activism.
She became a driving force in preserving his legacy after his tragic death in 1997. She never stopped fighting to find answers in the slain Brooklyn, New York, rapper’s death. Wallace launched the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, an organization for community empowerment through arts and education.
Wallace, a self-described “avid gardener,” frequently took to Instagram to share bouquets and blooms with her followers.
The Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls, remains one of the most celebrated figures in hip-hop history. With two posthumous albums released, his certified United States sales have surpassed 28 million copies, including 21 million albums. Rolling Stone once hailed him as the “greatest rapper that ever lived”.
In 2020, after Biggie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Wallace expressed how “proud” she was of her late son.
