Mourinho gets four-match ban for ‘monkeys’ and referee criticism

Jose Mourinho, the coach of Fenerbahçe, has been handed a four-match ban and a fine of over 40,000 euros by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) due to comments he made following the heated Istanbul derby against Galatasaray. After the 0-0 draw on Monday, Mourinho referred to the Galatasaray bench as “jumping like monkeys” and criticized Turkish referees once again.

The TFF’s disciplinary council imposed a two-match suspension for his comments about the fourth referee and an additional two-match suspension for his remarks aimed at the Galatasaray bench, ruling that his behavior was “contrary to sporting ethics.” Fenerbahçe has since stated that Mourinho’s comments were taken out of context.

In addition to the suspension, Mourinho was fined more than 42,000 euros. The decision comes as Fenerbahçe trails Galatasaray by six points in the league standings.
