The Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported eight new cases of Mpox across Gombe, Plateau, and Akwa Ibom States.
This brings the total number of confirmed Mpox cases in the country to 67, distributed across 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), out of 1,031 suspected cases identified in 35 states and the FCT.
During a press briefing in Abuja, NCDC Director General Jide Idris also provided an update on cholera cases.
The agency has recorded 141 suspected cases and one death from cholera, with a fatality rate of 0.7 percent in Katsina, Lagos, Kano, Jigawa, and Adamawa States. Overall, the country has seen 216 deaths from a total of 7,663 suspected cholera cases.
Despite a reported decline in cholera cases, Idris warned that the situation might worsen in the coming weeks due to recent flooding in various parts of the country.
