The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake, expired, and substandard medical products valued at ₦4.7 billion in Rivers State.
The destruction took place at the Rivers State Waste Management Authority (RIWAMA) Dumpsite in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate harmful and counterfeit medical products from the South-South region.
The process of collecting contraband drugs and other unsafe health materials from six South-South states began on Thursday, with the items transported to the dumpsite for disposal.
At the event, Chukwuemeka Oligbu, NAFDAC’s South-South Director, who represented the agency’s Director-General, reiterated NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health. The destruction was carried out in partnership with other agencies and security forces.
As the counterfeit and expired drugs were burned, NAFDAC reaffirmed its dedication to protecting Nigerians from the dangers posed by substandard and falsified medical products.
