NANS chairman calls for unity at Southwest convention

The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) for the Ondo State Axis, Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua, has urged delegates at this year’s Southwest convention to take the opportunity to foster unity among themselves.

In his welcome address to delegates at the convention in Akure, Ondo State, Joshua emphasized that the event serves as a platform for promoting collaboration and growth among Nigerian students from the South-West geopolitical zone.

The convention gathers student leaders, stakeholders, and representatives from the six South-Western states—Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo. It is seen as a pivotal moment for the student body to unite and elect new leadership for NANS South-West Zone D, which will guide the association toward further progress and advocacy for student welfare.

Joshua highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect during the convention, urging participants to act in ways that foster harmony and unity. He pointed out that the convention is not just about electing new leaders, but also an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of Nigerian students through peaceful and constructive engagement.

“We are proud to host this prestigious convention in the Sunshine State, and it is crucial that we uphold the principles of peace, cooperation, and unity,” Joshua stated. “This event marks a defining moment for student leadership in the South-West zone, and I encourage all participants to engage positively, understanding that our strength lies in our ability to work together harmoniously.”

He called on NANS Senators and candidates to prioritize non-violent communication and maintain decorum throughout the proceedings, reminding attendees that NANS is committed to fostering dialogue and championing students’ interests through peaceful means.

Joshua expressed gratitude to the Ondo State Government for its ongoing support in making the convention possible. “We deeply appreciate the Ondo State Government for welcoming Nigerian students from across the South-West to Akure for this convention. The arrangements made by the government, especially regarding security, demonstrate their commitment to ensuring that this event runs smoothly,” he noted.

He reassured all participants that security personnel would be present at the venue to maintain order and oversee the election process, encouraging attendees to fully engage in the event without concerns for their safety.

Joshua also extended a special welcome to the NANS Senators, recognizing their vital role in the legislative framework of NANS and the representation of student interests. He praised NANS stakeholders and leaders for their dedication to advancing the cause of Nigerian students, noting that their guidance continues to shape the future of student governance in Nigeria.

He commended the bravery of candidates stepping forward for leadership roles, reminding them that true leadership is about service.
