NANS Issues 14-Day Ultimatum to FG Over Delay in Northeast Road Projects

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone E, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Government, demanding the immediate mobilization of contractors to resume work on four major road projects in the northeast region.

In a statement released by the Zone E Coordinator, Umar Afkawa, the association warned that failure to act within the stipulated period would lead to mass protests in Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno states. The affected road projects include the Numan-Gombe, Numan-Jalingo, Damaturu-Buni Yafi, and Biu-Garkida roads.

The students’ union expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on these vital infrastructure projects, which have caused significant hardship for students, commuters, and local residents. Despite repeated promises by the federal government to expedite the construction, the projects remain uncompleted, fueling frustration among the affected communities.

Afkawa also directed the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to provide a clear and detailed timeline for the completion of these roads. He called on the government to identify and address the underlying issues causing the delay, stressing the urgency of ensuring that these projects are completed without further setbacks.

The leadership of NANS Zone E warned that if their demands are not met within the 14-day deadline, they would mobilize students and community members for widespread protests across the affected states. The association emphasized that the continued delay in the completion of these critical roads is unacceptable and that immediate action must be taken to alleviate the suffering of the people.
