The Nasarawa State Government has shut down the mining operations of Trimadix Geomin Consult Limited at the Amba site in Kokona Local Government Area for operating without authorization.
The government’s action followed a petition by a community chief about “unauthorised mining activities,” which posed a threat to peace and security.
The company’s representative, Tim Eldon, also accused the state government of interference at a press conference.
Giving details on the government’s crackdown, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Yakubu Kwanta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling illegal mining activities, stating that any company found violating Executive Order 02 of 2022 would face closure.
The order requires mining companies to undergo scrutiny by the state ministry and security agencies to verify their legal status before operating.
The commissioner praised the cooperation of security agencies in enforcing the executive order and reiterated the government’s efforts to sensitise stakeholders about regulatory provisions aimed at enhancing security and environmental standards.
The Amba mining site will remain closed until licenced and trusted investors, approved by both the community and state government, are authorised to operate in the area.
