In a bold and compelling move, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the distinguished representative for Kogi Central, has addressed Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging her to maintain distance from the storm of sexual harassment and intimidation allegations surrounding her husband.
The escalating clash between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio ignited after the Senator’s refusal to take a designated seat during a Senate session, citing the constitutional authority granted by Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules. Tensions flared further when, in an impassioned interview on Arise News, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the Senate President of attempting to stifle her motions, defame her character, and intimidate her following her rejection of his alleged sexual advances.
In a swift rebuttal, Mrs. Akpabio convened a press conference in Abuja, vehemently denying the allegations and emphasizing the longstanding cordial relationship between the two families, dating back long before Akpoti-Uduaghan’s marriage. She dismissed the claims as unfounded.
But the war of words didn’t end there. On March 1, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team, led by lawyer Victor Giwa, sent a sharply worded letter to Mrs. Akpabio, urging her to refrain from becoming embroiled in the deeply personal matter. The letter, provocatively titled, “Stay Out of the Allegations Against Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Protect Your Family’s Peace of Mind,” made it clear that these accusations were directed at the Senate President alone, and it was his responsibility to defend himself.
The letter conveyed the frustration of a woman who, though silent for too long, could no longer suffer in silence. It read: “Our client, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, does not wish for you to be dragged into the web of these distressing allegations, which are solely between her and the Senate President. While she has endured years of intimidation and harassment, she has now been compelled to speak out against the abuse she has suffered under the Senate President’s watch.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s team emphasized that her accusations are rooted deeply in personal experience and that the Senate President is more than capable of defending his own actions. “The accusations against the Senate President are personal,” the letter asserts. “Our client is resolute in the belief that he should be the one to address these allegations and disprove them if he can.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal counsel also made it abundantly clear that the Senator has irrefutable evidence to back her claims, encouraging Mrs. Akpabio to stand aside and let her husband face the accusations directly—“for the sake of your sanity and the well-being of your family.”
In closing, the letter echoed a final plea for Mrs. Akpabio to consider the impact of her involvement. “Our client, a fierce advocate for Nigerian women and family values, remains steadfast in her mission to protect the dignity of all women. She believes it is essential to preserve the sanctity of the family unit and, by extension, the honor of the Nigerian people.”
With an unwavering commitment to justice, Akpoti-Uduaghan stands undeterred—her voice a beacon of resilience in the ongoing battle for truth and accountability.
