Natasha’s Lawyer Accuses Kogi Govt of Sponsoring Senator’s Recall

Victor Giwa, one of the lawyers representing Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused the Kogi State Government of orchestrating the recall of the suspended lawmaker, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District. Giwa claimed that Charity Omole, an aide to Governor Usman Ododo, has been leading the effort to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The suspended senator, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been embroiled in a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment and abuse of office. As a result, the Senate suspended her for six months for misconduct.

On March 24, 2025, Omole, along with some Kogi Central constituents, submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin the recall process.

Giwa argued that the recall was politically motivated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Kogi, aimed at targeting the suspended senator. He noted that the recall process is lengthy and complex, involving 15 stages, and stated that it would only be possible through fraudulent means. Giwa also criticized the reason for the recall, claiming it was not based on any performance-related issues but rather on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations against Akpabio.

He further alleged that the state government, through Omole, was sponsoring the recall process. “The lady leading this protest is the senior special assistant to the governor of Kogi State on women and youths, which clearly indicates government involvement,” Giwa said. He emphasized that a legitimate recall should be initiated by the constituents, not by government officials.

As of press time, the Kogi State Government had not responded to the allegations.
