National Assembly Reaffirms Support for Agricultural Development Fund to Boost Food Security

The National Assembly Joint Committee on Agricultural Production and Services has reiterated its strong backing for the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), emphasizing its role in enhancing food security across Nigeria.

This reaffirmation of support came during the NADF’s budget defense session, where lawmakers committed to strengthening the Fund’s initiatives aimed at improving the nation’s agricultural sector.

The Executive Secretary/CEO of NADF Mohammed Ibrahim, shared details of the discussions in a statement on Saturday.

The lawmakers lauded the NADF for its significant achievements in 2024, particularly in fostering sustainable agricultural development. They underscored the importance of timely seed capital disbursement as a key element for advancing agricultural progress and ensuring food security.

“The committees reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the NADF to further the food security agenda outlined by President Tinubu’s administration,” Ibrahim stated.

Senator Saliu Mustapha, Chairman of the Senate Committee, and Bello Kaoje, Chairman of the House Committee, led the discussions on the Fund’s strategic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. During the session, they called for greater support for the NADF’s initiatives, particularly in the timely release of funds critical to the sector’s growth.

In his defense of the NADF’s 2025 budget, Ibrahim highlighted key initiatives, including efforts to scale up agricultural financing, enhance seed production systems, and improve rural infrastructure. These initiatives, he explained, are essential for fostering food security and promoting sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.

Ibrahim also pointed to the Fund’s successes in 2024, such as the Ginger Recovery Advancement and Transformation for Economic Empowerment project, which has strengthened partnerships and driven impactful agricultural development across the country.

Legislators expressed optimism that with continued support, the NADF would be able to further expand its efforts, contributing significantly to the government’s ongoing food security initiatives.
