The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting a nationwide dust haze from Monday to Wednesday. According to the agency, the northern region will experience a moderate dust haze on Monday, with visibility ranging from 2 to 5 kilometers. Localized visibility is expected to drop to less than 1 kilometer during this period.
The North Central region is also set to witness moderate dust haze, with visibility remaining within the 2 to 5 kilometers range and localized conditions of less than 1 kilometer. In contrast, the southern part of the country will encounter early morning mist or fog, followed by moderate dust haze, with a similar visibility range of 2 to 5 kilometers during the day.
On Tuesday, NiMet predicts that the northern region will be engulfed in thick dust haze, with reduced visibility. The central region, however, will experience moderate dust haze, with visibility expected to range between 1 and 3 kilometers throughout the day. Meanwhile, the southern parts will continue to see early morning mist or fog, with moderate dust haze expected throughout the day and visibility dropping to between 1 and 3 kilometers.
By Wednesday, the northern and North Central regions will face thick dust haze throughout the day, with the southern areas continuing to experience early morning mist or fog. Moderate dust haze will prevail over the southern states, with visibility ranging from 1 to 3 kilometers.
NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions due to the dust particles in suspension, advising individuals with respiratory conditions, particularly those suffering from asthma, to be extra cautious. The agency also called on residents to stay informed through weather updates and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities. NiMet further emphasized that airline operators should consult the agency for airport-specific weather reports to plan their operations effectively.
