Ndidi changes Leicester jersey number after nine years

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who originally wore the number 25 jersey for Leicester City after moving from Genk, has given it up for the past six years

The freshly promoted Premier League team revealed on their official website on Wednesday the number of players in their squad for the 2024–2025 season.

Nine years ago, he made his professional debut against Royal Charleroi S.C. while playing for Racing Genk and wore the number 25 on the back of his shirt.

He is now set to wear the number 6 jersey, which used to be donned by Jonny Evans, who is now at Manchester United, and Robert Huth, the record holder for most appearances made by a German player in the English top-flight.

Despite widespread speculation that the Nigerian midfielder will leave Leicester City upon the expiration of his contract in June, he eventually signed a new contract that will expire in June 2027.

Ndidi has made 273 appearances across all competitions and chipped in 17 goals and 17 assists since joining the former Premier League champions.

Similarly, Italian-Nigerian defender Caleb Okoli will wear the number 5 jersey, which was worn by club legend Wes Morgan and Chelsea Academy product Ryan Bertrand during their time with the Foxes.

Okoli is heading into his first season at the club, having just joined from Atalanta this summer.

He is in contention to make his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, with Ndidi seeking to make his 193rd appearance in the English top-flight.
