The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command has successfully secured the conviction of 12 drug traffickers in the state. The achievement was announced in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesman, Sadiq Maigatari, on Saturday in Kano.
Maigatari described the convictions as a significant milestone in the NDLEA’s ongoing battle against drug-related crimes, under the leadership of State Commander Abubakar Ahmad. The agency secured multiple convictions in a single day, reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law and its zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
The 12 convicted individuals were found guilty of participating in drug trafficking activities at the notorious Filin Idi drug den. Each received a three-year prison sentence without the option of a fine, highlighting the seriousness of their offenses.
One of the convicts, Lawan Sani, faced additional charges after attacking an NDLEA officer, leading to a 10-month manhunt. Sani was handed an extra two-year sentence, totaling five years in prison.
Maigatari emphasized that the convictions serve as a strong deterrent to drug traffickers exploiting the Filin Idi area for illicit activities. He assured that under Commander Abubakar Ahmad’s leadership, the NDLEA Kano State Command remains committed to bringing drug offenders to justice and fighting the scourge of substance abuse in the region.
The agency also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities to authorities.
