In a bid to streamline the verification process for student loan applicants, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced plans to integrate its system with university portals, ensuring a seamless and more efficient way to verify student information.
Mustapha Iyal, Executive Director of Operations at NELFUND, revealed the initiative during a sensitization event at the University of Ilorin on Tuesday, aimed at universities in Kwara State.
Iyal highlighted that verification has been one of the major challenges in processing loans, and the integration with institutional portals is a key solution to this issue.
“This collaboration will link NELFUND directly with university systems, enabling students to easily choose their preferred payment method, whether it’s through NELFUND, cash, or other options, as part of the registration process,” Iyal explained.
This development will eliminate the need for students to visit the NELFUND website separately, thereby simplifying the process and reducing delays for applicants.
Addressing concerns raised by students from universities in Kwara State, Iyal assured them that NELFUND is working on enhancing its systems to meet the demands of students across the country. “We are committed to ensuring the process is seamless. Our operations run 24/7, and we’re always available to assist students,” he stated.
During the event, Umar Farouk, representing the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), expressed his appreciation for the student loan initiative launched by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Farouk emphasized that this program would significantly improve access to higher education for students from low-income families.
“One of the President’s key campaign promises was to establish student loans, and today it has become a reality. This initiative ensures that students from underprivileged backgrounds can pursue higher education without financial constraints,” Farouk said.
With the integration of NELFUND into school portals, the Nigerian government is taking crucial steps toward making higher education more accessible, efficient, and inclusive for all students.
