The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) are working together to respond to a dynamite explosion that occurred in the Sabon Pegi residential area of Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State.
This was confirmed in a press statement issued by NEMA on Monday. The explosion took place in the early hours of Sunday at approximately 7:30 am.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed on Sunday that the explosion was caused by dynamites stored in a residential building. According to the police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the blast resulted in the death of one individual, Fatima Sadauki, while six others were injured and taken to General Hospital Kainji, New Bussa, for medical treatment.
The explosion also affected about 12 houses in the area, causing significant property damage.
In response, NEMA has been alerted and is working alongside NSEMA to provide emergency assistance to those impacted by the incident.
